Top tips for transitioning fleets to EV

022 Jun 2023

Missed our recent webinar? Catch up on our expert insights into transitioning your business to electric vehicles—and 3 key considerations

We recently hosted our ‘Successful EV fleet transition’ webinar, a masterclass which was fantastically received by the fleet management professionals who attended. Here, we bring you our key takeaways from the session, just in case you missed it.

The session included a wealth of insight and bp pulse’s learnings and research around the transition to electric vehicles (EV). We took a deep dive into real life examples of what that transition looks like for fleets.

Attendees heard from our speakers Alex Potts, bp pulse Fleet Sales Director and Adrian Brabazon, BP Fleet Sales Director and had the opportunity to ask questions.

Alex Potts shared three key takeaways that underpin successful fleet transitions:

1. There is no magic wand

Every business has unique needs and requirements when it comes to infrastructure. There is no one-size-fits-all solution for EV charging. This is where partnering with bp pulse will give you an advantage, as we draw on over a decade’s experience to collaborate with our customers and can understand your business's specific demands. By gaining this knowledge, we can determine the best locations for charging stations, evaluate the electrical capacity, and assess the feasibility of integrating EV charging with your existing infrastructure.

2. Understand existing infrastructure

Before implementing EV charging infrastructure, it's crucial to have a comprehensive understanding of your current infrastructure. This involves assessing your site, working closely with property and estates departments, and identifying any potential limitations or opportunities. By also envisioning your future needs, you can plan ahead and avoid redundant or inefficient installations; consider your requirements not just in the immediate future but also over the next three, five, and ten years.

3. Learn about the "Dig once" approach

The "dig once" principle emphasises the importance of minimising disruption and cost by avoiding repetitive construction. By investing time and effort in thoroughly understanding your requirements upfront, we can optimise the installation process and avoid the need for multiple disruptive digging projects in the future. This approach not only saves time and money but also minimises inconvenience to your operations.
